Slipping at Session's End, JCI Closes Slightly Lower

The Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) closed slightly weaker on Friday (28/8/2026). The index had risen quite high at the start of trading, but reversed course and came under pressure towards the close.

Based on IDX Mobile data, the JCI closed at 6,518.12, down 3.63 points or 0.06% from the previous closing position of 6,521.75.

The JCI opened at 6,535.72 and had strengthened to touch its highest level of 6,566.90. However, the index then reversed direction and briefly touched its lowest level of 6,495.74 before closing at 6,518.12.

Today’s transaction value reached Rp14.86 trillion with a transaction volume of 33.30 billion shares. Trading frequency was recorded at 1.97 million times.

A total of 290 shares rose, 348 shares fell, and 325 other shares remained stagnant.

Among the shares supporting the JCI, PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA) provided the largest positive contribution of 7.05 points, followed by PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBRI) at 6.22 points and PT Mora Telematika Indonesia Tbk (MORA) at 5.87 points.

Furthermore, PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk (VKTR) contributed 3.93 points, PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk (BMRI) 3.48 points, and PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBNI) 2.46 points.

On the other hand, PT Bayan Resources Tbk (BYAN) was the main drag on the JCI with a negative contribution of 7.37 points.

Further pressure came from PT Impack Pratama Industri Tbk (IMPC) at 3.04 points, PT Sejahteraraya Anugrahjaya Tbk (SRAJ) at 2.77 points, PT Bumi Resources Minerals Tbk (BRMS) at 2.38 points, and PT Amman Mineral Internasional Tbk (AMMN) at 1.79 points.

Financial Sector Provides Support

From a sectoral perspective, four sectors managed to close in positive territory. The financial sector was the biggest gainer with an increase of 0.83%, followed by the technology sector which rose 0.62%.

The non-primary consumer sector strengthened 0.41%, while the industrial sector rose 0.23%.

Meanwhile, the healthcare sector was the deepest decliner, falling 1.76%. The energy sector then fell 1.07%, utilities weakened 1.02%, education services fell 0.82%, and basic materials corrected 0.80%.

The primary consumer sector also weakened 0.25%, while the property sector fell 0.14%.

With these movements, the JCI ultimately held at the 6,500 level after briefly testing the 6,400 level during intraday trading.

The financial sector strengthened in line with foreign fund flows. Based on Stockbit Sekuritas data, the value of foreign buy throughout session I reached Rp2.08 trillion, while foreign sell reached Rp2.21 trillion. Thus, foreign investors booked a net sell of Rp125.08 billion across the entire market.

PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA) was the share most bought net by foreigners with a value reaching Rp358.24 billion.

Furthermore, shares of PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk (TPIA) recorded foreign net buy of Rp89.86 billion, followed by PT Bank Mandiri (Persero) Tbk (BMRI) at Rp80.86 billion.

Other banking shares, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBRI) and PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BBNI), also ranked among the top with net buys of Rp28.23 billion and Rp25.34 billion respectively.
