Slippery Grates and Uneven Surfaces at Pasar Minggu Underpass Cause Motorcyclists to Fall

A section of the Pasar Minggu underpass in South Jakarta, heading towards Depok, has become a hazard for motorcyclists, with several riders reportedly falling due to the road conditions. The problematic spot is located in the second underpass, where the road features a slight curve and a downward slope. At this location, a metal water drain cover is installed, which becomes extremely slippery when wet. The road surface itself, a mixture of cast cement and asphalt, also becomes slick during rain, forcing motorcyclists to reduce their speed significantly. The metal drain cover also marks a transition point in the road’s descent. The underpass has two lanes, and the drain cover in the right lane is not level with the concrete surface, sitting lower and creating a jolt for riders passing over it. One motorcyclist, Wawan, said he always slows down and brakes gently when traversing the area, especially after rain, due to the slippery surface, the decline, and the uneven road height. He admitted he has never fallen there himself because he is cautious, nor has he personally witnessed any accidents, but he acknowledged that other riders might have fallen at different times.
