Slippery as an Eel: Suspect in Bandung Kidnapping and Torture Case Repeatedly Evades Police
Jakarta – The case of the alleged kidnapping and torture of a young woman in Bandung continues to draw public attention. Police are still hunting for a man with the initials TH, the suspected perpetrator in a case that left the victim in critical condition and requiring hospital treatment.
Despite intensive search efforts over recent days, the suspect has repeatedly managed to evade the authorities. Police revealed that TH has a pattern of constantly moving from place to place, complicating the arrest process.
The victim, identified as YTR (29), a resident of the Antapani area in Bandung, is believed to have been held captive and abused by her own boyfriend for nearly three years. The case came to light after the victim was found in a distressing state and received medical care. The family learned of YTR’s whereabouts after receiving a message from an unknown person informing them that she was being treated in hospital.
Head of Public Relations for the West Java Regional Police, Commissioner Hendra Rochmawan, stated that investigators have deployed various efforts to locate TH, but the perpetrator has not yet been apprehended. According to Hendra, the police team has mapped several locations believed to be the suspect’s hiding places. However, each time officers moved in to make an arrest, TH managed to disappear before they arrived.
“For several days now, the police have been battling to find the suspect,” Hendra said, describing the intensity of the search process. Authorities continue to pursue various leads and information to narrow down the suspect’s movements.
During the pursuit, police acknowledged they had been close to capturing TH on several occasions, but the suspect always managed to escape the raids. Based on the mapping results, investigators determined that TH does not stay in one location and is believed to be continuously moving to avoid arrest. “Indeed, from the results of our mapping, the suspect is moving around. Several times we almost raided him, but he still managed to escape,” Hendra explained.
