Slip of tongue startles supporters

SURABAYA: For most people, a slip of the tongue is usually just a simple mistake and is quickly forgotten, but it can spell the end of a politician's career.

A campaigner for the Indonesia Justice and Unity Party (PKPI) made a major gaffe on Saturday when campaigning for the party before a crowd at a field on Jl. Dharmawangsa here.

Instead of shouting "Viva PKPI!" as a closing remark, the campaigner promoted Golkar.

"If Golkar wins the election, the lives of Surabayans will be much better," Agus Suryanto, the campaigner and PKPI legislative candidate, said.

The statement certainly surprised the party's supporters and officials present at the event.

Agus realized his career-damaging mistake and quickly added: "I used to be active in Golkar, but now I am a PKPI legislative candidate." -- Antara
