“I visited the Mrican area in Sleman yesterday afternoon. The slum area handling at that location can serve as a model for similar efforts in other cities across Indonesia,” Yudhoyono said on Saturday.

He made the statement while meeting Sleman Deputy District Head Danang Maharsa during a tree-planting activity for the green corridor along the Prambanan-Purwomartani toll road section in Sleman.

Earlier, he and his entourage reviewed the results of the revitalization of an area that was previously a slum and has now been transformed into a clean and well-organized neighborhood.

The five-hectare area located along the banks of the Gajahwong River now also features the “Gatotkaca” Public Open Space, which is suitable for community activities.

The minister praised the transformation of the Mrican area, noting that it has become more orderly.

He also visited the Condongcatur Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST). This community-based waste management facility is capable of processing 8 to 10 tons of waste per day into refuse-derived fuel, fertilizer, and other products.

On the same occasion, Sleman District Head Harda Kiswaya said that the district government is committed to transforming slum areas into functional public spaces.

He added that the government continues to promote slum area transformation through collaboration with various stakeholders to improve the quality of life of local residents.

“With these efforts, we hope the community’s quality of life will improve, along with better health and greater prosperity,” he said.
