Sleman's Monalisa SME Develops Goat Milk Mocaf Pie
The Monalisa micro, small, and medium enterprise (UMKM), located in Gayamharjo Village, Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, is currently undertaking a major transformation of its operations. This transformation encompasses production process development, administrative governance, product innovation, and more modern marketing strategies. One of the leading innovations produced is a goat milk mocaf pie. This product utilises mocaf flour made from cassava combined with local goat milk. The innovation not only adds value to local commodities but also opens wider market opportunities for the artisans. The success of UMKM Monalisa is the fruit of a mentoring programme initiated by PT Asuransi BRI Life in partnership with the BRI Research Institute (BRIRINS Institute) as the implementing partner. The three-month programme, running from March to May 2026, focused on building the capacity of cassava-based SME operators to produce competitive processed goods. Head of the Corporate Secretary Division at BRI Life, Ade Nasution, explained that community empowerment through the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme is a company priority. He noted that the indicator of CSR success is not merely physical aid, but the community’s self-reliance after the programme. ‘We are delivering a programme that not only provides production facilities but also strengthens business capacity through structured mentoring with the BRIRINS Institute. We hope this programme will produce SMEs that are more independent, adaptive, and competitive, thereby improving community welfare sustainably,’ Ade said in a written statement on Wednesday (8/7). To support modernisation, BRI Life provided production equipment including a tiered oven, stainless steel work tables, and digital devices for business record-keeping. Beyond the technical aspects of production, personal protection was also addressed. A total of 30 Monalisa SME members received Micro Accident, Health, and Life Insurance (AMKKM) from BRI Life. The insurance provision was accompanied by financial literacy education to strengthen the financial resilience of the group members. To ensure the quality of raw materials from the upstream level, the programme also involved agricultural experts from Gadjah Mada University (UGM). The experts provided technical assistance on pest and disease control for cassava plants to the supplying farmers. The Coordinator of the Monalisa SME Production and Marketing House, Mantik Bimo Nugroho, acknowledged the positive impact of this collaboration. He stated that the mentoring has improved the group’s ability to manage the business professionally, adopt digital technology, and expand the marketing reach of their mocaf processed products.
