Sleman Village Head Reno Named Suspect in Two Separate Village Land Corruption Cases
Condongcatur Village Head Reno Candra Sangaji has been named a suspect in two separate corruption cases related to the misuse of village treasury land (TKD) in Sleman. The cases involve land in Padukuhan Gandok and on Village Land Plot 88 in Padukuhan Pringwulung, Condongcatur. Reno is currently detained by the Yogyakarta Special Region Police (Polda DIY) for the Gandok case.
Polda DIY officially detained Reno on Monday, 22 June, for the corruption case in Gandok, specifically at RT 01/RW 04. ‘The suspect, with the initials R, has been detained at the Polda DIY detention centre as of Monday last week,’ said AKBP Haris Munandar Hasyim, Head of Sub-Directorate 3 of the Polda DIY Special Criminal Investigation Directorate, during a press conference on Tuesday (30/6/2026). Police also seized evidence including land lease agreement documents and proof of payment. In this case, Reno allegedly leased approximately 1,900 square metres of village treasury land to 17 tenants without permission from the Governor of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X. An audit by the BPKP Representative Office for DIY found the act caused state financial losses of IDR 1,740,213,500. The lease should have complied with Governor Regulation (Pergub) DIY Number 34 of 2017 on Village Land Utilisation, but Reno proceeded without authorisation for personal gain.
In the second case, the Yogyakarta High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejati DIY) named Reno a suspect on 30 June 2026 regarding Village Land Plot 88 in Padukuhan Pringwulung. Another suspect, a former Jagabaya with the initial K, was also named. Kejati DIY investigators examined 19 witnesses, including village officials and experts, and seized 81 documents along with a sum of money suspected to be proceeds of crime. An audit by BPKP DIY found that between January 2017 and March 2025, the suspects allowed the land to be leased to other parties without the Governor’s permission, violating regional regulations. This resulted in state losses of IDR 4,224,342,510.90, benefiting unauthorised parties. Both suspects are charged under the Corruption Eradication Law.
Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X responded to the case, stating he was the one who requested the legal process. ‘I was the one who submitted the request for it to proceed. So just let the law settle it,’ the Sultan said after a plenary meeting at the DIY Provincial Parliament Building on Thursday (2/7/2026). He also issued a stern warning to other village heads not to engage in or commit abuses.
