The corruption case surrounding tourism grant funds in Sleman Regency has ensnared Raudi Akmal, the son of former Sleman Regent Sri Purnomo. The Sleman Regency Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) member was named a suspect by the Sleman District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari Sleman).

The designation of Raudi as a suspect was announced directly by Sleman Chief Prosecutor Bambang Yunianto. Previously, Raudi had twice failed to appear for questioning by investigators. On the third summons, Raudi attended and was immediately named a suspect by investigators.

“Today, Monday, 22 June 2026, investigators from the Sleman District Prosecutor’s Office have elevated the status of a witness and named him a suspect in the development of a case concerning alleged corruption and irregularities in the management of tourism grant funds in Sleman Regency for the year 2020,” Bambang explained during a press briefing at the Sleman Prosecutor’s Office on Monday evening.

“The witness with the initials RA. I repeat, the witness with the initials RA, who is a member of the Sleman Regency DPRD for the 2019–2024 and 2024–2029 periods,” he continued.

Bambang stated that the case relates to Sleman Regency receiving a grant of Rp 68 billion from the Indonesian Ministry of Finance in 2020 for handling the COVID-19 pandemic and its impacts. The regulations governing this were stipulated in the Minister of Finance Regulation Number 46/PMK.07/2020 and the Decree of the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Number KM/694/PL.07.02/M-K/2020, which was amended by Decree Number KM/704/PL.07.02/M-K/2020 concerning Technical Guidelines for Tourism Grants for National Economic Recovery in the 2020 Fiscal Year.

“From the results of the investigation development carried out by the Sleman Prosecutor’s Office Investigation Team, active actions by suspect RA were discovered in the management of the 2020 Sleman Regency Tourism Grant Funds,” he said.

Bambang stated that Raudi’s role involved conditioning proposals from community groups. “Namely, by conditioning proposals from community groups as grant recipients, which were subsequently formalised through a Sleman Regent’s Decree,” he said.

Bambang added that these actions were carried out jointly with Sri Purnomo. He stated that the suspect’s actions resulted in state financial losses. Based on an audit report calculating state financial losses from the BPKP Representative Office of Yogyakarta Special Region, the state loss amounted to Rp 10.9 billion.

“The actions of suspect RA were carried out jointly with defendant Sri Purnomo,” he asserted.

Following his designation as a suspect, Raudi was immediately detained. This was based on Detention Order Number PRINT-01/M.4.11/Fd.2/06/2026, issued by the Head of the Sleman District Prosecutor’s Office on 22 June 2026.

“Subsequently, suspect RA has been detained for the next 20 days at the Class IIA Yogyakarta Detention Centre,” he stated.

Prosecutors charged Raudi under the primary indictment of Article 603 in conjunction with Article 20 letter C of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code, in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning the Eradication of Corruption. The subsidiary indictment cites Article 604 in conjunction with Article 20 letter C of Law Number 1 of 2023, in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001.

Meanwhile, Raudi was seen being escorted out of the Sleman Prosecutor’s Office towards a detention vehicle at around 7.40 p.m. Western Indonesian Time, wearing an orange vest and handcuffs. He was guarded by military and prosecutor’s office personnel and accompanied by his legal counsel in the detention vehicle.

“We all know the verdict from the Yogyakarta District Court stated there was no involvement on my part. So, we want to face this with justice,” Raudi said as he was led to the detention vehicle.

Raudi’s legal counsel, Soepriyadi, protested the detention, claiming his client was ill and should not have been immediately detained. He stated that an examination by a doctor from the Sleman Regional General Hospital (RSUD) declared Raudi sick, noting his blood pressure reached 150.

“We conveyed that the plan was for Mas Raudi to be detained after being named a suspect. But the fact is, when first examined by the doctor from Sleman RSUD, he was declared sick. Sick, and it was not possible to take any action or coercive measures,” Soepriyadi told reporters.

He stated that Raudi was still in a recovery period, having reportedly been discharged from hospital just a few days prior. “Even walking, he was staggering. Because he just got out of the hospital about three or four days ago,” he said.

However, after the examination by the Sleman RSUD doctor, the prosecutor’s office ordered a further examination at the internal clinic of the Sleman Prosecutor’s Office. The result declared Raudi healthy, despite the examination also showing a blood pressure reading of 150.

“After being declared sick by the Sleman RSUD doctor, suddenly another examination was ordered at the Prosecutor’s Office clinic, and the result said Raudi was healthy,” he said. “The internal clinic doctor said his blood pressure was like this, his condition was healthy. How can a blood pressure of 150 be declared healthy? What is going on here? Is there an intention to force this detention?”

Consequently, he perceived the prosecutor’s office as disregarding human rights by forcing a sick person to be detained.
