Sleman Regent Harda Kiswaya will not implement the work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN) on Fridays. This decision was taken by the Sleman Regency Government, even though the central government through the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a circular on the matter.

“I respect that order, but regarding WFH in the regency area, in Sleman it cannot be optimal. Therefore, we will serve the public as usual,” said Harda when met by reporters at the Sleman Regency Secretariat Office on Wednesday (1/4/2026).

Harda explained several considerations for not implementing the WFH policy in Sleman Regency. One of them is related to the effectiveness of services.

“We might be wrong, perhaps, but regarding that (WFH) it’s situational. In Sleman, services cannot be optimal, so we prioritise public services,” he stated.

Harda feels that if WFH is implemented, public services will not run optimally. In addition, he mentioned that all Regional Work Units (OPD) in Sleman are directly involved in public services, so this WFH policy cannot nearly be applied.

“There are many things that mean our considerations for us to serve as usual. I have discussed with colleagues, almost none are doing WFH. Because all services are direct to the public,” he explained.

According to detikNews, the Government has officially set the work-from-home (WFH) policy for ASN. This WFH applies for one day per week, namely on Fridays, and takes effect from 1 April 2026.

For regional ASN, Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian issued a circular regulating the WFH policy on Fridays, namely Circular Letter (SE) of the Ministry of Home Affairs Number 800.1.5/3349/SJ on the Transformation of Civil Servant (ASN) Work Culture in the Regional Government Environment.

Regional ASN can carry out official duties through a combination of work from office (WFO) and work from home (WFH). This was stated by Tito during a press conference on the WFH policy for ASN/TNI/Polri and private sector workers via online from Jakarta on Tuesday (31/3).

“Adjustment of official duty implementation by location with the WFH work pattern for one working day in one week, namely every Friday,” said Tito in a written statement on Wednesday (1/4).
