Sleman records 921,851 tourist visits during school holiday period
The Tourism Office of Sleman Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, recorded a total of 921,851 tourist visits to various destinations in the area during the school holiday period from 15 June to 13 July 2026. Head of the Marketing Division at the Sleman Tourism Office, Kus Endarto, stated on Tuesday that this year’s school holidays represented a peak season that contributed significantly to tourist movement in Sleman Regency. “Data shows that visits during this school holiday period were dominated by domestic tourists, reaching 906,021 people or 98.28 per cent of total visits,” said Kus Endarto. The remaining 15,830 visits, or 1.72 per cent, were foreign tourists who also enjoyed various attractions in the Sleman area. Kus explained that the surge in tourist visits occurred significantly on weekends, with the daily peak recorded on Saturday, 4 July 2026, at 69,831 visits, followed by Sunday, 5 July 2026, with 68,099 visits. Based on monitoring data, three categories of tourism were most in demand during the school holidays: nature tourism with 362,929 visits, followed by cultural tourism with 191,221 visits, and man-made tourism with 171,708 visits. Kus said the Merapi area remained the main attraction for tourists, supported by cultural destinations and various family recreation spots that complemented the travel experience in Sleman Regency. “Favourite destinations during the school holiday period included Merapi Adventure for nature tourism, Prambanan Temple for cultural tourism, and Family Recreation Park for the man-made category,” he said. Kus further expressed hope that this positive trend in visits would continue beyond the school holiday period by continuously improving service quality and promoting leading tourist destinations in Sleman Regency. “We are optimistic that tourist visits will increase in 2026. We also believe this can drive the community’s economy, particularly for MSME players,” he said.
