Sleman Ranked Second Best Regency for Creative Financing in Java-Bali
The Sleman Regency Government has successfully strengthened its position as one of the regions with the most innovative financial governance in Indonesia. Sleman achieved an award as an Outstanding Regional Government for the Java-Bali Region, securing second place in the Creative Financing category from the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. The prestigious award was presented during an appreciation event held at the Marriott Hotel Yogyakarta, Depok, Sleman, on Thursday evening. This achievement is tangible proof of Sleman’s success in optimising local resources to finance regional development independently. The Creative Financing category assesses the extent to which regional governments are able to create breakthroughs in development financing outside conventional schemes. Based on the assessment by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Sleman Regency excelled in several strategic aspects. In addition to innovation, the consistency of the Regional Government Financial Report opinion and digital-based financial governance were additional points that strengthened Sleman’s position in second place for the Java-Bali region. The Regent of Sleman, Harda Kiswaya, who personally received the award, expressed pride in the dedication of all state civil apparatus within the Sleman Regency Government. He hopes this award will not lead to complacency, but rather serve as motivation to continuously improve the quality of public services. ‘Thank you to all my colleagues who have worked hard. How we continue to improve financial governance in Sleman Regency, so that the region’s ability to develop the area with its own strength becomes stronger. The hope is that one day Sleman can be self-reliant from a financial perspective,’ said Harda after the event. The Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, explained that the awarding of this prize is a form of official recognition from the central government. Tito emphasised that the Ministry of Home Affairs not only provides sanctions or reprimands for regions that violate rules but also gives appreciation to those who excel. ‘This time we give appreciation so that it is balanced. It is hoped that this step can strengthen performance culture, trigger motivation, and create a healthy competitive climate between regions,’ expressed Tito. The event was also attended by a number of national figures, including the Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait, Chairperson of Commission IV of the House of Representatives Siti Hediati Hariyadi, and regional heads from across Java and Bali. With this achievement, Sleman Regency is expected to become a role model for other regencies/cities in terms of fiscal independence and development financing creativity in the future.
