Sleman Railway Gate Vandal Also Damaged Flag in Bantul
Police are investigating a case of vandalism involving a flagpole and the Indonesian national flag in Kwaron, Ngestiharjo, Kasihan, Bantul. It has been revealed that the perpetrator is the same person responsible for damaging a railway crossing barrier in Gamping, Sleman.
The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Bantul Police, AKP Subihan Afuan Ardhi, stated that the case has now progressed to the investigation stage. He noted that the suspect was intoxicated at the time of the acts.
“The status of the case has been upgraded from inquiry to investigation this morning. Initial information indicates the suspected perpetrator is the same individual who vandalised the railway crossing barrier in Gamping, Sleman,” Subihan said at the Bantul Police headquarters.
The perpetrator is currently being held at the Gamping Police Station in Sleman. Police are still examining the suspect’s statements.
“Based on witness statements, the initial assumption is that the perpetrator was intoxicated. However, we need to further investigate the validity of this information,” he added.
Regarding the motive behind the vandalism, Subihan said inquiries are ongoing. He also confirmed that the perpetrator is a student at a university in Yogyakarta.
“We will investigate the real motive. The perpetrator is a student at a university in Yogyakarta, but he is not a resident of Yogyakarta; he is from outside the area,” he said.
The vandalism of the flagpole and the national flag was captured on CCTV. The footage shows a motorcyclist damaging the flagpole in Kwaron, Kasihan, Bantul, who is believed to be the same individual who damaged the railway crossing barrier in Gamping, Sleman.
