Sleman Police Investigate Alleged Brawl Behind Accident That Killed Student in Gamping

Police are still investigating the sequence of events leading up to an accident on Jalan Siliwangi, just east of SMP Negeri 3 Gamping, Padukuhan Ponowaren, Kalurahan Nogotirto, Kapanewon Gamping, Sleman, in the early hours of Saturday (22/8/2026). The investigation follows information regarding an alleged incident of groups of students intercepting each other and engaging in a brawl.

Head of Public Relations of Polresta Sleman, First Inspector Argo Anggoro, said that in the accident, which occurred at around 03.00 WIB, a student from Godean, HFN (17), died after suffering serious injuries. The victim had been receiving treatment at Queen Latifa Hospital, but his life could not be saved.

The accident involved a Honda Vario motorcycle ridden by RAJ (14), a student from Gamping, and HFN, who was on the road at the time of the incident. RAJ suffered abrasions and bruises and received treatment at PKU Muhammadiyah Gamping. Meanwhile, the motorcycle passenger, MZA (17), is a student from Mlati, Sleman.

“The pedestrian, with the initials HFN (17), male, a student, resident of Godean, Sleman, suffered a number of serious injuries, including a fracture to the right leg and severe head trauma. The victim later died while undergoing treatment at Queen Latifa Hospital,” said Argo when confirmed on Monday (24/8/2026).
