According to detikJogja on Monday, 25 May 2026, the repeated fires first occurred on Saturday, 23 May night. The blaze destroyed several household items in the house.

“It started at midnight on Saturday, 23 May. Initially, fabric caught fire, then spread to the door frame,” said homeowner Mutfiana when interviewed by reporters.

After the fire was extinguished, flames reappeared in different areas and burned other items. She said the incidents continued to recur until yesterday afternoon.

She wondered about the source of the flames, noting that each fire occurred without sparks or explosions.

Gegana Polda DIY Steps In

Meanwhile, the incident was reported to the police. Sleman Police Station’s Inafis team and the DIY Police Gegana unit were involved in the investigation. Preliminary findings suggest the fire was caused by methane gas from the septic tank.

“Based on the Gegana unit’s investigation, the fire was triggered by a methane gas leak from a septic tank with non-compliant gas drainage channels, allowing the gas to enter the house and ignite,” said Seyegan Police Chief AKP Pujiono during confirmation on Sunday, 24 May.
