Based on investigations by the DIY Police Gegana Team, the fires were triggered by methane gas leakage from a septic tank whose gas drainage system did not meet standards, allowing gas to enter the house and ignite,” said Seyegan Police Chief AKP Pujiono when confirming the incident, as reported by detikJogja on Sunday (24 May 2026).

Pujiono explained that multiple fires occurred over the two-day period.

“These included burning bathroom doors and towels, living room chairs, parts of bedroom mattresses, and bathroom fabrics catching fire again,” he said.

After further investigations until 12:00 WIB, no further methane leaks were detected. Police urged the homeowner to replace the pipes immediately, as the septic tank is also used for chicken slaughter waste disposal.

“The Gegana Team recommends the septic tank be dismantled and the drainage pipes replaced in line with safety standards, given the tank is used for both household and chicken slaughter waste,” Pujiono added.

The first fire occurred on Saturday (23 May) evening, destroying several household items.

“That happened on Saturday night at midnight. Initially, fabrics caught fire, then it spread to the door frames,” said the homeowner, Mutfiana, when interviewed by journalists on Sunday (24 May).
