Sleepy taxi driver takes midnight dip

JAKARTA: A sleepy taxi driver lost control of his vehicle and drove into the pool at the traffic circle at the intersection of Jl. MH Thamrin, Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan, Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat and Jl. Budi Kemuliaan in Central Jakarta on Tuesday night.

Driver of the Koperasi Taksi Indonesia (KTI) taxi, Roni, 23, said that he was driving along Jl. Merdeka Selatan at 11:30 p.m. when he felt very sleepy, Antara reported.

"I was awoken as my feet became cold because of the water entering my vehicle," he said. "Luckily, I didn't have any passenger in the car."

The driver was not injured while the taxi, which was towed at 1:10 a.m., was slightly damaged. --JP
