Sleeping Driver Triggers Collision, Transjakarta Launches Special Hotline for Bus Operators
Jakarta – PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) has launched a Driver Hotline following a collision caused by driver fatigue. A Transjakarta bus previously collided on the elevated route or Corridor 13 after the driver fell asleep whilst driving.
Transjakarta Chief Executive Officer Welfizon Yuza stated that the hotline serves as a dedicated communication channel for drivers to report emergencies and operational obstacles swiftly.
The initiative represents part of an evaluation following a series of accidents involving Transjakarta bus drivers. “The launch of the Driver Hotline is a concrete step to enhance our monitoring systems,” Welfizon said in an official statement on Friday, 27 February 2026.
“We hope this hotline will provide drivers with a sense of security and full support whilst they serve on the front lines,” Welfizon added.
To strengthen safety measures, Transjakarta held a Driver Safety Assembly on Thursday, 26 February 2026, attended by hundreds of self-managed and partner operator drivers. During the event, Welfizon emphasised that safety must become a work culture, not merely a procedure.
Given that Transjakarta served 413 million passengers throughout 2025, the responsibility for safety is deemed increasingly significant. “Safety is not merely an operational target. It is a value, culture, and moral responsibility to society. Every incident must not remain a statistic; it should trigger process improvements and strengthened standards that address root causes,” Welfizon said.
Drivers, according to Welfizon, act as principal decision-makers in the field. The programme is expected to reinforce the company’s commitment to providing safe public transport services.
The safety assembly also included risk mitigation training, support for orphaned children, and breaking fast together as part of strengthening workplace solidarity during Ramadhan.
