Slashed with a Cutter and Bent Backwards: Here's the Condition of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8

The durability of Samsung’s latest foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 8, has come under scrutiny after undergoing a series of extreme physical tests. This smartphone, priced at above Rp30 million, proved capable of surviving forced encounters with sharp scratches and bending pressure applied in the opposite direction.

The tests were carried out by YouTuber Zack Nelson on the JerryRigEverything channel. In his uploaded video, Nelson performed various drastic actions to test the limits of the device’s resilience, ranging from the use of a cutter to attempts to break the phone’s body with bare hands.

The trial began with the screen. Based on the data gathered, the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s outer screen, protected by Gorilla Glass Victus Ceramic 3, delivered an impressive performance by resisting scratches up to hardness level 6 on the Mohs scale. This indicates solid protection for everyday use.

However, different characteristics were found on the main inner screen. The flexible panel began to show scratch marks at hardness level 2. This condition is considered normal, given that foldable screen materials require high flexibility so the folding mechanism can function perfectly.

The intensity of the testing increased when Nelson used a cutter to damage the external components. Several parts, such as the volume buttons and the rear camera lens guard, suffered fairly visible physical damage. Even so, vital components such as the fingerprint scanner continued to function normally, even though its surface was covered in deep scratches.

The most crucial moment came during the bend test. When the device was bent in its folded state, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 showed no significant damage. The surprise came when Nelson unfolded the phone and bent it outwards, against the direction of its normal fold.

The immense pressure caused the rear glass layer to detach from its frame. Surprisingly, however, the main screen remained lit and fully functional, without any pixel damage or cracks on the folding panel. This result reinforces the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s position as one of the most durable foldable phones on the market today.
