Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) has stated that the Jakarta Sky Fun Run 2026 serves as a green step towards Jakarta’s 500th anniversary in 2027.

“Through the Jakarta Sky Fun Run 202cap, we invite the public to enjoy Jakarta from a different perspective. The Skyline of Corridor 13, which serves the mobility of millions of customers every day, will be celebrated by thousands of runners in an extraordinary experience,” said Fadly Hasan, Director of Business and Asset Utilisation at PT Transportasi Jakarta, in Jakarta on Saturday.

The event, which expects 5,000 participants, offers a unique running experience atop the BRT lanes while carrying an environmental mission through waste management programmes and mangrove planting.

Under the theme “Running Into Tomorrow,” the Jakarta Sky Fun Run 2026 is not merely a sporting and recreational event, but also carries an important message regarding healthy lifestyles, the positive use of public spaces, and commitment to environmental sustainability. Transjakarta emphasised that organising the Jakarta Sky Fun Run is part of the company’s commitment to providing active, inclusive, healthy, and environmentally friendly public spaces.

According to Fadly, the idea of providing a reliable public transport system for Jakarta began with studies in 2001, which was later realised through the operation of Transjakarta in 2004. Since then, Transjakarta has grown into one of the largest Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) systems in the world.

In addition to providing a running experience on the iconic elevated tracks, the Jakarta Sky Fun Run 2026 carries an environmental mission through the Green Movement programme. This is designed to connect participant involvement with real action in environmental preservation and the reduction of climate change impacts. “This step is expected to increase public awareness regarding the importance of waste reduction and the circular economy in daily life,” said Fadly.

This commitment to sustainability extends further, as Transjakarta has stipulated that every registration ticket purchased will be converted into a contribution for planting one mangrove seedling in Jakarta’s coastal areas. The programme is part of an effort to support climate change mitigation while maintaining the coastal ecosystem, which plays a vital role in reducing abrasion and absorbing carbon emissions.

To ensure the transparency and sustainability of the mangrove planting programme, Transjakarta is collaborating with Carbon Ethics. Through this partnership, participants can monitor the progress and growth of the mangroves planted as part of their environmental contribution. Consequently, every participant is not only engaging in a sporting activity but also becoming part of a continuous environmental preservation movement.

Through the Jakarta Sky Fun Run 2026, Transjakarta hopes that the “Running Into Tomorrow” spirit can evolve into a collective movement to create a healthier, greener, and more sustainable Jakarta. The Jakarta Sky Fun Run 2026 will take place on 12 July on the Corridor 13 elevated tracks. Registration is available via the TJ: Transjakarta application.
