SKK Migas Eyes Additional Drilling of 100 Exploration Wells This Year
The Special Work Unit for Upstream Oil and Gas (SKK Migas) is targeting an additional 100 exploration wells this year as part of the government’s drive to secure new oil and gas reserves. Deputy for Exploration, Development and Block Management at SKK Migas, Rikky Rahmat Firdaus, explained that the exploration-well drilling target for this year was originally set at 39 wells. However, SKK Migas has an ambitious programme branded Triple 100, comprising 100 exploration wells, 100 multi-stage fracturing wells, and 100 development wells. “Our leadership has given direction to implement the ‘Triple 100’ programme, namely 100 exploration wells, 100 multi-stage fracturing and multilayer fracturing initiatives, and 100 additional development wells,” Rikky said at The 50th IPA Convex 2026 in ICE BSD, Tangerang Regency, on Friday (22 May 2026). He further noted that for 2026, together with the contract operating companies (KKKS), they have prepared the work programme and budget since late 2025 to chase the government’s target oil production of 610 thousand barrels per day. To support this target, SKK Migas has approved a programme of drilling 832 development wells and 39 exploration wells to be undertaken by 157 oil-and-gas contractors. Previously, SKK Migas Chief Djoko Siswanto said that to support the programme, SKK Migas had signed memoranda of understanding with Schlumberger, Halliburton and PT Pertamina Drilling Services Indonesia (PDSI) to prepare the drilling units. “The development drilling, as I mentioned, this year totals around 880-odd for the development wells,” he said. Djoko stressed that a production-enhancing strategy cannot proceed without support from the business functions and the procurement of goods and services. Regulators in upstream oil and gas in neighbouring countries have also provided input into long-term planning. “Thus it will be efficient in expenditure for the provision of goods and services, especially in border areas where we can share facilities and use facilities jointly, with schedules aligned with neighbouring countries,” he said.
