SKG Tegal Gede Becomes Pertagas Mainstay for Maintaining Gas Supply in Java
PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas) is relying on the Tegal Gede Gas Compressor Station (SKG) in Cikarang, West Java, to maintain the reliability of natural gas distribution on Java Island. The infrastructure plays a role in regulating gas pressure and flow so that supplies to the industrial, electricity, and commercial customer sectors remain stable.
Pertagas Corporate Secretary Sulthani Adil Mangatur stated that SKG Tegal Gede is one of the strategic assets supporting gas distribution operations in the central to western regions of Java. The facility forwards gas flow from the Cilamaya Station to the pipeline network in western Java.
“We have the Tegal Gede Compressor Station here, which is one of the infrastructure assets in the central Java operational area. This facility continues gas distribution, especially for the western Java region,” Sulthani said during a media briefing in Cikarang, West Java, on Wednesday (8/7/2026).
Sulthani explained that the gas flowing through SKG Tegal Gede comes from various sources, including production from Pertamina EP, PGN’s West Java transmission pipeline network, and regasified gas from the Nusantara Regas FSRU.
According to him, the role of SKG Tegal Gede will become increasingly important once the Cirebon-Semarang (Cisem) pipeline is integrated. This integration connects the gas transmission network from central Sumatra to East Java, thereby increasing the flexibility of national gas distribution.
Sulthani added that Pertagas, which has been appointed as the network operator by BPH Migas, is ready to operate the infrastructure once gas supply and user demand are available. The entire network capacity has been prepared for utilisation by shippers.
Tegal Gede District Head Fari Akhdiar said the compressor station’s capacity is still sufficient to support an increase in gas distribution volume.
“The pipe capacity is around 350. We have four compressors, each 70. So we can still operate up to about 90 percent of capacity,” Fari said.
Pertagas explained that SKG Tegal Gede is one of the main nodes in the West Java gas pipeline network. The facility receives gas supplies from various lines, then compresses it before distributing it to Bitung, Cilegon, and other user areas.
Through this function, SKG Tegal Gede maintains pressure stability while ensuring the reliability of natural gas supply for the industrial, power generation, and commercial customer sectors in West Java and its surrounding areas.
