The 105th memorial of Indonesia’s 2nd President, H.M. Soeharto, was held in a lively atmosphere at Trilogi University, Jakarta, on Wednesday (24/6/2026). The event featured a National Seminar themed ‘The Leadership of General H.M. Soeharto’ and a sketch competition involving 1,126 participants from various backgrounds.

The competition, titled ‘Lomba Seribu Goresan Sejarah’ (Competition of a Thousand Historical Strokes), was one of the main agendas of this year’s memorial. Participants came from various educational levels, ranging from early childhood education, primary, junior high, and senior high school students, to university students and the general public.

Due to the high level of interest, the committee was forced to close registration early. The committee cited venue capacity and painting equipment as the main considerations for limiting the number of participants.

‘The interest in participating in the competition and seminar was overwhelming. The committee even had to close registration early due to limited space and supporting painting tools,’ said the Committee Chairman, Dr. Rossi Iskandar.

The participants’ enthusiasm also led the ‘Lomba Seribu Goresan Sejarah’ to set a record with the Indonesian World Records Museum (MURI) for the sketch competition of General H.M. Soeharto with the largest number of participants. This achievement became one of the important moments in the organisation of the 105th memorial of Indonesia’s 2nd President.

In addition to the sketch competition, the committee held a National Seminar themed ‘The Leadership of General H.M. Soeharto’. The seminar featured several national figures as speakers.

The seminar speakers included Minister of Culture Fadli Zon, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti, Rector of the Defence University Lieutenant General (Ret.) Anton Nugroho, and former Minister of Finance Dr. Fuad Bawazier.

According to Rossi, the seminar aimed to re-examine the leadership values of General H.M. Soeharto, which are considered still relevant in facing various national development challenges. He also stated that the forum was expected to serve as an inspiration for the younger generation, particularly university students.

‘This seminar delves deeply into President Soeharto’s leadership, so that it can become a role model for the student generation,’ Rossi said.

The event at Trilogi University was one of the agendas in the series of the 105th memorial of General H.M. Soeharto. Previously, the committee held a book launch and discussion titled ‘National Resilience, Pak Harto’s Spiritual Practice, Indonesia and Kejawen, a Javanese-style SWOT Analysis of the State’ by B. Wiwoho.

That activity took place at the Postgraduate School of Sustainable Development, University of Indonesia, on 8 June 2026.

Through this series of events, the committee hopes that the 105th memorial of General H.M. Soeharto will not only be a moment to remember the journey of a national leader. More than that, this activity is also expected to become a space for reflection to re-examine the leadership values, dedication, and spirit of development he bequeathed to Indonesia.
