SK Lerik Regional Hospital Manages Rp 3 Billion Fund for Underprivileged Patients

The SK Lerik Regional Hospital (RSUD) has a fund of Rp 3 billion to treat emergency cases involving residents of Kupang City who are not covered by the Health Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) and are underprivileged.

Director of RSUD SK Lerik, Maria Veronica Ivonny Dondao Ray, stated that the Rp 3 billion fund was allocated by the Kupang City Government (Pemkot). To date, the fund has been utilised by 199 patients, with a budget realisation of Rp 700 million.

“The funds prepared by the mayor are for when a patient experiences a critical emergency and arrives at the emergency department, and is definitely a resident of Kupang City, does not have BPJS, and is underprivileged. When they come to RSUD SK Lerik, we treat them first,” Ivonny said on Tuesday (23/6/2026).

As healthcare workers, Ivonny explained, RSUD SK Lerik prioritises medical treatment. Administrative requirements are handled while the patient is being treated.

Regarding financing, RSUD SK Lerik will coordinate with the Kupang City Population and Civil Registration Office (Dispendukcapil) to verify the patient’s residency status. “If they are not a resident of Kupang City, it certainly cannot be covered because this is from the Kupang City Government for its citizens,” Ivonny emphasised.

Ivonny revealed that this Pemkot Kupang programme has been running since last year and many residents have already benefited from it. RSUD SK Lerik continues to socialise this programme at community health centres and to patients’ families.

“We convey this innovation from the Kupang City Government that guarantees the safety of underprivileged communities in the Kupang City area,” explained the former head of the Sikumana Community Health Centre.
