PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or KAI, for the Yogyakarta operational area, has issued an appeal to all passengers to pay close attention to the regulations regarding the maximum size and weight of luggage allowed on board trains. This measure is being taken as part of efforts to maintain comfort, safety, and order during the journey.

The Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 6 Yogyakarta, Feni Novida Saragih, explained that the permitted luggage dimensions are a maximum volume of 100 dm³, maximum dimensions of 70 cm x 48 cm x 30 cm, and a maximum weight of 20 kg, equivalent to a 26-inch suitcase.

“If passengers bring luggage exceeding these maximum dimensions, they will be subject to excess baggage fees,” she said on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

Feni added that for luggage with dimensions exceeding 200 dm³ or 70 cm x 48 cm x 60 cm, KAI will not allow the items on board and advises passengers to use a delivery service.

Regarding excess baggage fees, KAI has set varying charges depending on the class of service, namely Rp 10,000 per kilogram for Executive Class, Rp 6,000 per kg for Business Class, and Rp 2,000 per kg for Economy Class.

The implementation of these regulations aims to ensure that the cabin space remains tidy without disturbing other passengers.

Feni requested the cooperation of passengers to check their luggage independently before departing for the station.

“We urge all passengers to pay attention to the size and weight of their luggage before departure,” she said.

To ensure that these rules are effectively implemented, officers at stations and on board the trains will continue to monitor and provide direct information to passengers.

KAI Daop 6 hopes that a shared understanding of these luggage regulations will create a safe and orderly travel experience.

Feni also reminded passengers not to bring prohibited items for the safety of all.

“We urge passengers to bring luggage within the permitted capacity and not to bring hazardous materials, flammable items, or items that may disturb other passengers,” said Feni.
