Six Years Established, Roda Amal Foundation Distributes Benefits across Five Districts in West Java during Ramadan 1447 H
The Roda Amal Bersama Foundation has been operating for six years as a philanthropic institution in West Java. This Ramadan 1447 H, supported by individual and corporate donors, the foundation distributes benefits each Friday.
Social initiatives undertaken include constructing water wells at Islamic boarding schools, mosques, and Islamic study circles, providing funeral shrouds and bathing facilities for the deceased, and distributing cash assistance and boxed meals to people with disabilities, orphans, the poor, students, Islamic scholars, and the elderly across five municipalities and districts in West Java.
Dr H Muhammad Sufyan Abdurrahman, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Roda Amal, disclosed that during this Ramadan the organisation is constructing a water well and bathing facilities at the Jamiatul Hidayah Islamic boarding school and Islamic study circle in Manglad, Warung Kondang, Cianjur District. Construction began during the first week of Ramadan and is targeted for completion by the fourth Friday of Ramadan this week.
Previously, during the second week, the foundation distributed a funeral bathing facility to Masjid Jami Nurul Fatah in Cikembang Village, Caringin District, Sukabumi District. “We are currently constructing funeral shrouds that will be distributed on the final Friday of Ramadan next week to Masjid Jami Nurul Iman in Gobang Village, Ciambar District, Sukabumi District. Alhamdulillah, donor confidence continues to grow each year,” he said in Bandung on Thursday, 12 March.
Beyond these charitable targets, Roda Amal also undertakes various other community social activities. These include providing weekly educational scholarships to two foster children at SD Telaga 2, Cugenang, Cianjur District, and to two to four underprivileged hafiz students at Majelis Taklim Salaful Huda, Talaga Tengah Village, Caringin, Sukabumi District.
“Other routine charitable targets include partner orphanages such as Mizan Amanah, Al-Ihsan, and PYI in Sarijadi, Bandung City, Panti Ad-Dzikra in Ciawitali, Cimahi City, Panti PYI in Dakota, Bandung City, and Panti Istana Yatiim Dhuafa in Sariwangi, West Bandung District. For elderly care facilities, we have been providing assistance since 2022 to Panti Lansia Tulus Kasih, Sarijadi, Bandung City,” he continued.
During Ramadan, the foundation also distributes iftar meal packages to various mosques and Islamic study circles, particularly in Bandung City and Cianjur District over the past three years. This year, distributions have been made to Masjid Baitul Amanah and Masjid Al-Musthofa in Sukawarna, Bandung City. Regular charitable targets also include waste management site workers at locations such as Sarimadu Barat, Sukarasa, Pasteur Toll, and Gunungbatu, totalling six fixed locations.
Regarding assistance to people with disabilities, Sufyan stated that the organisation maintains intensive cooperation with the national disability organisation Indonesian Disabled Women’s Association (HWDI) in Cianjur District. Weekly cash assistance is distributed to people with disabilities, ranging from physical to cognitive disabilities, across numerous sub-districts in the district.
Before entering Ramadan, during the past six months, Roda Amal also constructed water wells at Al-Ittihad Islamic boarding school in Cibadak, Sukabumi District, and Masjid As-Salafiyah in Kolaberes Village, Talaga, Cirumput, Cugenang Sub-district, Cianjur District, totalling three drilling sites.
Funeral shrouds were previously distributed to Masjid Jami Al-Falah in Tegal Teri Village, Sukaluyu, Cianjur District, bringing the total of funeral shrouds and bathing facilities distributed to nine units.
From Neighbourhood Level
Sufyan explained that the foundation was established when he served as the neighbourhood head in Sukawarna Ward, Bandung City. During the Corona pandemic, he mobilised distribution of wrapped rice packages each Friday to residents affected by job losses.
Beginning in 2023, the activity expanded to Cimahi City, West Bandung District, Bandung District, and Cianjur District. “Initially it was just boxed rice, then it developed into commitments for mosque renovation funds, mosque carpet procurement, Covid testing equipment, Qur’an teacher allowances, and donation commitments for cattle and goats during Idul Adha in 2021, 2023, and 2025,” he said.
The foundation has also assisted with renovation funds and improvement of facilities, including at Masjid Baitul Amanah, Mushola Tarbiyatul Aulad, and Masjid Al-Basyir in Bandung City, as well as Ponpes Jamharul Qowi Nurul Hadad in Ciranjang, Cianjur District, totalling approximately ten locations.
Individual donors, originally from a single neighbourhood, have now expanded to include Jakarta, Tangerang, Bekasi, Medan, Cianjur, Sukabumi, Purwakarta, and Bali. Corporate donors include PT Telkom Indonesia, PT Len Industri, PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia, PT Telkomsel, PT Pos Indonesia, Sari Roti, and the West Java Regional Zakat Board.
