Six-Year-Old in Central Jakarta Allegedly Extorted Before Being Bullied and Electrocuted

A six-year-old boy with the initials MWP, who was bullied by being electrocuted at Kramat Pulo Park in Central Jakarta, is also suspected of having been a victim of extortion. “We received information from the family that there is an alleged extortion,” said the victim’s family legal counsel, Andi Nursatanggi, to reporters on Monday (15/6). Andi stated that the suspected extortion was likely the background to the bullying experienced by the victim. “He was allegedly asked for his pocket money by his friends. When he reportedly did not give the pocket money, the victim MWP was bullied,” he said. Andi urged the police to further investigate the alleged extortion, including how long the perpetrators had been carrying it out. “Whether this extortion has been happening for a long time or just recently occurred is also important to trace,” he said. “This motive must be investigated thoroughly so that the chronology is complete. We encourage that this case be attended to, and that the public, government, and law enforcement officials continue to pay attention to it,” he added. Previously, a six-year-old child from Kramat Subdistrict, Central Jakarta, fell into a coma after allegedly being bullied and persecuted by two teenagers. The victim’s grandmother, Linda Reselin, said her grandson was comatose and treated at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital after being electrocuted while being bullied. According to her, the abuse occurred on Sunday (7/6). Based on CCTV footage, two teenagers were seen taking the boy and pressing him against an electrical pole. The pole inside the Kramat Pulo Park area had a leak, causing the victim to be electrocuted, convulse, and then faint. Police have apprehended two perpetrators in this case, one of whom is a minor. The Head of the PPA-PPO Unit at the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Kompol Rita Oktavia Shinta, stated that the suspect with the initials ALR (17 years and 11 months) has been detained as he meets the age requirements under the Juvenile Criminal Justice System. Meanwhile, RM (13) cannot be detained and has been returned to his parents with a mandatory reporting obligation during the investigation. The two perpetrators are charged under Article 76C in conjunction with Article 80 of Law Number 17 of 2016 concerning the Stipulation of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law Number 1 of 2016 on the Second Amendment to Law Number 23 of 2002 on Child Protection, which prohibits violence against children.
