Police officers have apprehended six men suspected of attacking personnel from the North Sumatra Police (Polda Sumut) during a drug bust operation in Medan. The incident occurred when officers were raiding the residence of Apeng, a suspected drug dealer on Multatuli Street in Medan Maimun District.

The six detained individuals, identified as MRS (alias Duan), DP (alias Deka), AP (alias Yoga), FH (alias Fajar), RR (alias Rendi), and RZ (alias Rahmad), were found to be drug users following intensive post-arrest examinations. “All six tested positive for amphetamine or crystal methamphetamine based on urine tests,” stated Polda Sumut’s Public Relations Chief, Commissioner Ferry Walintukan, on Sunday (31 May).

The operation began on Thursday (28 May) afternoon when Subunit II of the Narcotics Directorate (Ditresnarkoba) launched Operation Antik Toba 2026, targeting FF (alias Apeng), a suspected drug dealer in the Multatuli area. Officers used an undercover buy strategy, successfully conducting a transaction and seizing one package of suspected drugs.

However, the situation turned chaotic during Apeng’s arrest as family members and local residents surrounded the officers and launched an attack. The crowd threw stones at the police, allowing Apeng to escape amid the chaos. In response, Ditresnarkoba coordinated with Brimob and Medan Kota Police for reinforcements to control the scene. A subsequent search led to the arrest of the six suspects, with evidence including 2.45 grams of crystal methamphetamine, a digital scale, drug paraphernalia, empty plastic clips, and other items linked to narcotics trafficking.

Commissioner Ferry stressed that Polda Sumut would take strict legal action against those proven to have attacked or obstructed officers during law enforcement operations. “Especially in drug eradication efforts,” he added. The narcotics unit continues to pursue Apeng, who remains at large. The case was handled by Subunit III of the Criminal Investigation Directorate (Jatanras) together with Pelabuhan Belawan and Medan Labuhan Police. The arrests, conducted around 12:30 AM WIB, were part of Operation Antik Toba 2026, with one package of drugs seized from the suspects.
