Six students arrested in Makassar
MAKASSAR, South Sulawesi: The Makassar police have arrested
six students and seized molotov cocktails, arrows and machetes in
a crackdown on Hasanuddin University students following a brawl
that left several students injured and scores of buildings
damaged last week.
"We will continue raiding the university and imposing a curfew
from 6 a.m. until midnight up until Sept. 16 to prevent further
possible clashes among the students," First Insp. Muhamad Amin
Umar, deputy chief of the Biringkanaya Police District, told The
Jakarta Post on Monday.
Muhamad said the curfew was imposed at the request of the
student senate and the university's student representative
council.
Earlier, the police seized 12 molotov cocktails, two riffles,
dozens of sharp weapons, and dozens of arrows and spears during a
raid on the campus last week that followed a brawl which erupted
on Aug. 27. --JP
