Six students admit their role in brawl

JAKARTA (JP): Six students being tried in the South Jakarta
District Court yesterday admitted their role in a brawl which
caused another student's death.

The six students, Abdur Rohman, Nandan Mulyadi alias Penjor,
Hendi Hendarsyah, Heryansyah alias Yayang, Jodhy Kresnapati and
Fahad Mukrom alias Faad were tried in three separate sessions
with the same panel of judges.

All of the defendants are between 16 and 18 years old, as was
the victim.

The six defendants are students of a state high school in
Cilandak, South Jakarta, while the victim was a student of a
private technical school in the same area.

In the first session, Abdur Rohman and Nandan Mulyadi admitted
taking part in the brawl in which Syaefuddin was killed. Rohman
said that he kicked Syaefuddin on the buttocks. Nandan said that
he threw stones and hit the victim in the face.

Heryansyah and Hendi Hendarsyah were tried in the second
session. Heryansyah said that he only slapped Syaefuddin's face.
Hendi Hendarsyah admitted that he took part in the brawl but did
not hit Syaefuddin.

The third session tried Jodhy and Faad. Jodhy said he hit
Syaefuddin's head with an steel pipe. Faad said he kicked the
victim in the stomach.

According to Prosecutor Agus Sutoto, the brawl took place on
Jl. Gaharu, Cilandak, South Jakarta on Sept. 9 last year when the
defendants fought with another group.

On that day Syaefuddin and his friends, including Wahyu
Hidayat, Arta Pratama and Fajri Fatara, went to Jl. Gaharu where
the defendants were hanging around.

Syaefuddin and his friends wanted to ask for Wahyu's bag and
hat which were allegedly stolen by the defendants' group several
days before.

The defendants refused to return the bag and hat, and then
fought with Syaefuddin's group.

Syaefuddin's group ran away but the defendants caught
Syaefuddin and reportedly beat him.

The case was adjourned until Jan. 17. (29)
