Six steal Rp 25m in goods from couple
JAKARTA (JP): Six burglars threatened a South Jakarta couple at knifepoint yesterday, tied them up and stole goods worth Rp 25 million (US$10,416).
South Jakarta Police Chief Lt. Col. Sisno Adhi Winoto said the six unidentified men broke into the couple's house on Jl. Seratus in Jagakarsa district in the early morning.
"The house owner, Cecep Muhamad Fatoni woke up when he heard a noise in the living room," Sisno said.
Sisno said that when Cecep went to check, one of the men pointed a sickle at him and threatened to kill him if he shouted for help.
The victim's wife, Yanti, who was also woken by the sound, was threatened by the burglar when she followed her husband out of the bedroom, he said.
Sisno said one of burglars then tied up Cecep with a necktie which was found on a sofa in the living room while another cut a telephone cable and tied up Yanti.
He said the burglars then entered the bedroom and took two gold necklaces, two bracelets, five pairs of earrings, a wristwatch, Rp 700,000 and US$350 in cash.
According to Sisno, the burglars also stole two TV sets, a computer, printer, and a car ownership document before the men escaped in a red Suzuki minivan.
He said after the burglars had fled the couple shouted for help, which attracted neighbors who entered the house and found the victims tied up.
He said the couple then reported the burglary to the police in the morning. (jun)
