Six reservoirs drying up

PURWOKERTO, Central Java: The water levels in six major reservoirs in Central Java have dropped between 25 percent and 50 percent as of late last month.

Although the water levels in the reservoirs has affected water supplies to vast irrigation systems and residents' clean water supplies, Governor Soewardi said yesterday that it happens every year and that there was nothing to worry about.

The six reservoirs concerned are the Penjalin in Brebes, Cacaban in Tegal, Mrica in Banjarnegara, Wadaslintang in Kebumen, Kedungombo in Boyolali and Gajahmungkur in Wonogiri.

"The reservoirs will regain their water levels as soon as the rainy season starts," he said. (wah)
