Six detainees from the Pekanbaru District Prosecutor’s Office (Kejari) escaped during a transfer from a prison vehicle to the holding cells of the Pekanbaru District Court (PN) on Thursday around midday. As of the time this report was filed, five detainees have been successfully recaptured by officers, whilst one remains at large.

The incident occurred on Jalan Teratai, Pekanbaru, moments after the prisoners were unloaded from the Kejari operational vehicle. Based on gathered information, the detainees brazenly escaped via a side door and crossed the road directly in front of the courthouse. A total of 40 detainees had been scheduled for court hearings that day.

The Head of the Pekanbaru Police Narcotics Unit, Assistant Commissioner Noki Loviko, who was deployed directly to the scene, affirmed the police’s commitment to swiftly apprehending all escaped prisoners.

Intensive pursuit by officers yielded results with the capture of five individuals not long after the escape attempt. However, one detainee reportedly remains a fugitive and is the primary focus of a joint search operation in the field.

As of now, there has been no further official statement from the authorities regarding the detailed chronology or the identities of the prisoners involved in the incident. Officers are still combing the vicinity and the routes suspected to have been used by the remaining escapee.
