Six Perpetrators Suspected of Harassing 26 Students and Lecturers at Unesa Suspended

Surabaya State University (Unesa) has imposed suspension sanctions on six students involved in a case of verbal sexual harassment through a group chat targeting 26 students and lecturers at the Faculty of Vocational Studies. The decision was taken after Unesa conducted an internal investigation.

“These results then served as the basis for the PPK Task Force to submit recommendations to the Rector of Unesa as material for establishing an official decision,” said the Head of the Unesa Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force (Satgas PPK), Iman Pasu Marganda Hadiarto Purba, as reported by detikJatim on Saturday (15/8/2026).

Iman explained that the sanctions imposed on the six students varied, ranging from suspension of one to three semesters. Unesa also cancelled and revoked the Student Creativity Programme (PKM) funding belonging to one of the perpetrators.

“One perpetrator was given a three-semester suspension sanction, two perpetrators received two-semester suspension sanctions, and three students received one-semester suspension sanctions,” he said.

“They are also required to participate in a coaching programme as part of the disciplinary and rehabilitation process,” he added.

The coaching programme includes mandatory counselling, spiritual guidance, and assignments given by the PPK Task Force in accordance with applicable mechanisms. According to Iman, the programme aims to help the reported individuals understand the impact of their actions.

“The aim is to help the reported individuals understand the impact of the actions taken, improve their behaviour, and rebuild understanding regarding communication ethics, respect for fellow members of the academic community, and the values of campus life with integrity,” he explained.
