Six nabbed for alleged prostitution

JAKARTA: Six Chinese citizens were arrested by immigration officers in a raid at Hotel Plaza Mangga Dua in West Jakarta on Wednesday on suspicion of prostitution.

Muhamad Indra, director of immigration supervision and enforcement at the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, said in a statement that the six entered the country using family visit and business visas.

"The raid was based on a tipoff ... The six were found in their rooms and some were caught servicing clients," Indra said, adding that a thorough investigation was under way.

The six were identified as Yi Yan Ma, Jing Dong Wang, Jiang Jin Rong, Hui Juan Guo, Liu Hong and Li Zhu He.

According to the 1992 Immigration Law, people who violate such visas can be punished with a five-year prison term or a Rp 25 million (over US$3,000) fine. -- JP
