Six Miners Found Dead, 14 Missing After Landslide at Papua Gold Mine
Six miners have been found dead and 14 remain missing following a landslide at a gold mine in Indonesia's easternmost Papua province.
The landslide in the Arfak Mountains occurred on Friday evening and was triggered by heavy rainfall, according to a government spokesperson.
Several temporary barracks were swept away by the landslide, and six workers have been recovered. Search operations are under way for the 14 others who remain unaccounted for.
The mine is located in a remote area, and it took rescue crews twelve hours to reach the site.
"Destroyed roads and paths, as well as poor weather, have delayed the rescue effort," said rescue team leader Yefri Sabaruddin.
