Six Million Foreign Tourists Enter Indonesia, Bali Remains Top Destination

Bali remains the favourite entry point for foreign tourists visiting Indonesia. According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), foreign tourist arrivals reached 1,382,087 visits in May 2025, an increase of 10.69% compared to the previous month and 5.83% from May 2025. Meanwhile, foreign tourist arrivals from January to May totalled 6,067,014 visits, up 7.69% compared to the same period the previous year. Bali remained the primary destination, with 578,203 arrivals through Ngurah Rai Airport, followed by Jakarta with 235,207 arrivals through Soekarno-Hatta Airport. ‘Looking at the main entry points, the highest number of foreign tourist arrivals came through Ngurah Rai Airport in Bali. These arrivals were predominantly tourists holding Australian passports,’ said Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, during a press conference at BPS Headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday (1/7/2026). Based on passport data, the highest number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in May 2026 came from Malaysia, with 298,210 visits, followed by Australia with 155,030 visits. The largest monthly increases in arrivals were recorded from Malaysia, up 43.4%, and Singapore, up 22.71%. In line with this, domestic tourism also surged in May 2026. BPS data showed the number of domestic trips reached 106,162,271 journeys in May 2026, an increase of 8.83% compared to April 2026 and 8.69% from May 2025. From January to May 2026, the total number of domestic trips rose slightly by 2.86% compared to the same period last year, reaching 523,221,951 journeys.
