Six join ASEAN badminton tourney
MEDAN, North Sumatra: Six countries are competing in the ASEAN students badminton championships that began here on Wednesday.
The participating countries are Brunei Darussalam, defending champion Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, incorporating 101 athletes and officials.
The tournament, which will run until Saturday, is competing seven events: men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, mixed doubles, men's team and women's team.
In his opening ceremony speech, North Sumatra Governor Rizal Nurdin appealed to participants to uphold high standards of sportsmanship in the competition. -- JP
