Six Interreligious Leaders to Lead Joint Prayer at National Dhikr Event in Monas

The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) has confirmed that six religious leaders will lead a joint prayer during the National Dhikr and Prayer event to be held at the National Monument (Monas) area, Jakarta, on Saturday, 1 August 2026. This event marks the commencement of the series of commemorations for the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.

Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar has invited the public to welcome the Month of Independence by attending the event. In addition to the interreligious leaders, the event will also feature Habib Syech bin Abdul Qodir Assegaf.

“Let us welcome the Month of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia by attending the National Dhikr and Prayer with Habib Syech bin Abdul Qodir Assegaf and interreligious leaders at the Monas field,” said Nasaruddin Umar in Jakarta on Saturday.

The presence of these interreligious figures is seen as a tangible manifestation of togetherness and the spirit of national unity. It also reflects a strong commitment to maintaining harmony between religious communities as a primary pillar of national and state life in Indonesia.

Prayers will be offered alternately by representatives from the six official religions in Indonesia. Through this joint prayer, participants are encouraged to express gratitude for the blessings of independence and the unity that has been maintained to this day. Furthermore, prayers will be offered to seek safety, peace, and progress for the Indonesian nation in the future.

The Ministry of Religious Affairs hopes this momentum will strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and reinforce the determination to maintain unity amidst diversity. The National Dhikr and Prayer is expected to bolster public optimism in facing a more advanced and prosperous future for Indonesia.

Interreligious leaders, religious youth organisations, and political party leaders have all agreed to maintain the integrity and peace of the country. The event is being organised under the coordination of the State Secretariat Ministry and is expected to be attended by approximately 100,000 people.

To ensure security, Polda Metro Jaya has deployed 7,643 joint personnel to secure the National Dhikr and Prayer event at Monas, which is anticipated to draw a large crowd.
