Six Indonesian Nationals Detained in Armenia Murder Case, Four Face Legal Proceedings

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that Armenian security forces have detained six Indonesian nationals suspected of involvement in the death of a fellow Indonesian citizen in Yerevan. The investigation by local authorities remains ongoing. Director of Protection of Indonesian Citizens and Legal Entities at the ministry, Heni Hamidah, stated that both the victim and the alleged perpetrators are all Indonesian citizens. This information was obtained through intensive coordination between the Indonesian Embassy in Kiev, via the Honorary Consul of Indonesia in Yerevan, and the local police. “Based on communication from the Indonesian Embassy in Kiev through our honorary consul in Yerevan, the investigation process is still ongoing,” Heni said during a media briefing in Jakarta on Thursday (23/7). Of the six Indonesian nationals initially detained, Heni revealed that two have been released by the authorities. The other four remain in custody and are undergoing legal proceedings, which are currently at an in-depth investigation stage. The Indonesian government has affirmed its commitment to overseeing this case. Heni assured that the consular rights of the Indonesian nationals undergoing legal proceedings are being fulfilled in accordance with international provisions and applicable Armenian law. Regarding the handling of the victim’s body, the Indonesian Embassy in Kiev has sent a diplomatic note to the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This step was taken to obtain official consular access. “We are still waiting for consular access while coordinating with the local authorities,” Heni added. The case began when a 24-year-old Indonesian national from Maros Regency, South Sulawesi, was found dead on 15 July 2026. The victim was discovered in a workers’ mess room at a company in Yerevan, Armenia. Strong indications point to a criminal act of murder, which triggered an intensive investigation by local police into the victim’s fellow migrant worker colleagues.
