Six detainees make an escape

TANGERANG (JP): Six detainees fled from Ciledug police subprecinct detention center on Tuesday night after taking advantage of lax security arising through distractions presented by the Special Session of the People's Consultative Assembly.

Tangerang Police chief Lt. Col. Pudji Hartanto Iskandar said on Wednesday that the detainees were residents of Brebes and a number of other towns in Central Java.

Police have so far failed to recapture any of the absconded villains. "We are still chasing after them," Pudji said.

The six detainees were Yani, David, Indra, Nurdin, Rudi and Adi, who is still a young boy.

Before fleeing detention, the prisoners sawed through a steel trellis covering a bathroom window. It was unclear how they managed to procure the saw.

According to police data, Yani and David are repeat offenders and have committed many violent crimes. (ind/41)
