Six defendants in a suspected corruption case involving investments from PT BVI and PT MDI Ventures into the startup TaniHub have been sentenced to prison. They were also ordered to pay criminal fines. The verdict hearing was held at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Thursday (18/6/2026). The judge stated there were no justifiable or excusable reasons to annul the criminal penalties for the defendants’ actions.

The judge declared that the case had caused state financial losses amounting to USD 25 million. The judge stated that the calculation of these state losses was concrete and definitive. “Considering that based on the audit report on state loss calculations by the BPKP dated 21 November 2025, the total state financial loss from the entire investment case in the TaniHub Group is USD 25 million,” the judge said while reading the verdict considerations.

The breakdown of the state financial loss includes the disbursement of PT BVI’s first phase Series A+ investment of USD 2 million, the disbursement of PT BVI’s second phase Series C investment of USD 3 million, and the disbursement of PT MDI’s investment of USD 20 million. The judge stated that the existence of state losses was reinforced by the following facts: a drastic decline in investment value from USD 5 million to the equivalent of USD 419 as of 30 September 2023; TaniHub Group’s post-investment operational losses exceeding Rp 437.58 billion in 2020; fictitious receivables amounting to Rp 359.98 billion; uncollectible receivables of Rp 693.40 billion; the dissolution of PT Tani Fund Madani with zero assets; and a PKPU process demonstrating the TaniHub Group’s inability to meet its obligations to creditors.

“Considering all these considerations, the panel of judges is of the opinion that the element of harming state finances or the state economy has been fulfilled and proven legally and convincingly,” the judge stated. The public prosecutor declared they would consider the verdict. Defendant William Gozali stated he would appeal, while the other five defendants said they would consider their options. “Order that the defendants remain in custody,” the judge ruled.

The complete verdicts for the six defendants in this case are as follows: Nicko Widjaja was sentenced to 3 years in prison and a fine of Rp 350 million, subsidiary to 110 days of confinement. William Gozali received 2 years in prison and a fine of Rp 250 million, subsidiary to 90 days of confinement. Ivan Arie Sustiawan was sentenced to 9 years in prison, a fine of Rp 1 billion subsidiary to 190 days of confinement, and a restitution payment of Rp 3.26 billion subsidiary to 4 years in prison. Edison TPL Tobing received 7 years in prison, a fine of Rp 1 billion subsidiary to 190 days of confinement, and a restitution payment of Rp 1.06 billion subsidiary to 3 years in prison. Aldi Adrian Hartanto was sentenced to 2 years in prison and a fine of Rp 250 million, subsidiary to 90 days of confinement. Donald Surjana Wihardja received 5 years in prison and a fine of Rp 750 million, subsidiary to 165 days of confinement.
