Six Debt Collectors Stop Woman and Attempt to Seize Motorcycle in Rawamangun, Leave After Argument

A group of debt collectors, known locally as ‘mata elang’ (matel), stopped a woman with the initials HF (24) on Jalan Pemuda Asli, Rawamangun, East Jakarta, in an incident that has gone viral on social media. The debt collectors abandoned their attempt to seize the vehicle after arguing with HF’s parents.

In a viral video, the group of debt collectors can be seen stopping the victim in the middle of the road. HF’s father then questioned the vehicle seizure. The debt collector merely smiled while arguing with the victim’s father.

The Head of Public Relations for the East Jakarta Metro Police, AKP Made Budi, stated that the incident occurred on Thursday, 18 June. He said HF was suddenly stopped by six debt collectors.

‘The victim felt she was being followed from Jalan Pemuda to the community health centre and back to the victim’s house. While passing on Jalan Kayu Jati Raya, the victim was stopped by six debt collectors,’ Made said.

The victim then suggested the debt collectors meet her parents. The debt collectors and the victim’s parents subsequently argued about the vehicle seizure.

‘Subsequently, upon arriving at the victim’s parent’s workplace, the victim’s parent argued with the debt collector, disputing that the licence plate did not match the vehicle type. A verbal altercation ensued between both parties, after which the debt collectors left the location. The motorcycle unit was not taken,’ he stated.
