Six dead in crash on toll road

BOGOR: Six people died instantly and seven other were injured after a funeral car collided with three Kijang vans on Jagorawi toll road near Cibinong in West Java on Tuesday.

All the bodies were taken to the Bogor PMI hospital. Two other passengers of the vans, namely Jumli and Sanudin, escaped the accident unhurt.

Jumli, 49, a staff member of the Jabar Agung Foundation, said on Tuesday that the accident occurred at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. He said that he and nine of his friends had just attended a funeral in Gunung Gadung, Bogor, and decided to return to Jakarta via the Jagorawi toll road.

During the journey, Barjo, the driver who is among the dead victims, drove the funeral car at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour. "I felt jolts in the car a few hundred meters before the accident site. Suddenly, the car front tire on the right burst and the car veered toward the right lane of the toll road," he said.

"At the same time, three Kijang vans sped from the opposite direction and one by one collided with the funeral car."

The Bogor Police are investigating the accident. --JP
