Six dead as boat capsizes
CEBU, Philippines (AFP): Six people were confirmed dead after
a motorboat, carrying a cargo of seaweed, capsized in a freak
storm off the waters of nearby Culasi town, the coast guard said
yesterday.
The wooden-hulled boat was carrying 15 passengers and a load
of seaweed, which is grown commercially in the central
Philippines, when a freak storm broke out on May 3, causing the
vessel to capsize.
Six bodies have been recovered so far while nine survivors
were picked up by rescuers, the coast guard said in a report.
