Six days before Eid 2026: 87,000 mudik travellers to Java, 161,000 arrive in Sumatra
Travellers from Sumatra who crossed to Java Island six days before Eid 2026 totalled 87,435 persons. Conversely, travellers from Java Island arriving in Sumatra numbered 161,528 persons.
“These thousands of travellers are based on data from PT ASDP’s Bakauheni Branch Eid transport recapitulation for seven and six days before Eid 2026 over 24 hours,” said General Manager of PT ASDP Bakauheni Branch, Partogi Tamba, on Monday (16 March).
Partogi stated that the total number of passengers from Sumatra who crossed to Java Island through Bakauheni Port, Wika Beton, and BBJ Muara Pilu was recorded at 86,435 persons.
The number of vehicles totalled 17,216 units, comprising 1,197 motorcycles, 9,833 cars, 4,905 trucks and above, and 1,181 buses.
“The number of ship trips operated totalled 259 trips,” he said.
Conversely, Partogi stated, the number of travellers from Java Island arriving in Sumatra through Merak Port, Ciwandan, and BBJ Bojonegara seven and six days before Eid was recorded at 161,526 persons, whether as foot passengers or in vehicles.
“For the number of vehicles, totalling 36,857 units. The breakdown comprises 8,752 motorcycles, 21,070 cars, 5,589 trucks, and 1,446 buses,” he explained.
He added that the peak Eid exodus flow from Merak Port to Bakauheni Port will occur on 18-19 March 2026 as those dates coincide with employee and factory worker holidays.
“However, it is not ruled out that peak exodus flow movement may commence on the afternoon of 17 March 2026,” he said.
He urged ferry service users to purchase tickets independently through the Ferizy application and official ASDP partners such as Indomart, Alfamart, BRILink, and Finpay agents. Ferry tickets must be obtained at the latest one day before departure.
“We urge ferry service users to always monitor the latest weather information and consider their travel plans if conditions in the Sunda Strait are unfavourable, as well as comply with instructions from officers whilst in the port area,” he concluded.
