Six-day working week

Six-day working week

From Pikiran Rakyat

I admire Minister of Administrative Reforms T.B. Silalahi's reinstatement of the six-day working week because he is one of the rare breed of courageous and sportsmanlike people who has admitted the failure of a policy, in this case the five-day working week.

As a former civil servant I concur with the view that productivity tends to decline in a longer working day. When still in service I used to do overtime in the late afternoon but the enthusiasm for it was often at a low level.

May there be other Silalahis in the future who will be as plucky and concede failure if any of their policies do not succeed.
