Six-Day Holiday Opportunity This Week: Note the Dates

The public has the opportunity to enjoy a six-day consecutive holiday this week following the government’s announcement of Idul Adha 1447 Hijriah. The government has set Idul Adha 1447 Hijriah on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. The announcement was made by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) following the isbat meeting for the start of Zulhijah 1447 Hijriah. “Based on hisab calculations and moon sighting reports, it was agreed that 1 Zulhijah 1447 Hijriah falls on Monday, 18 May 2026, therefore Idul Adha will be on Wednesday, 27 May 2026,” said Nasaruddin Umar in Jakarta on Sunday. Under Joint Ministerial Decree (SKB) No. 1497 of 2025, No. 2 of 2025, and No. 5 of 2025, the government has designated Wednesday, 27 May 2026 as the national holiday for Idul Adha and Thursday, 28 May 2026 as a collective leave day. Meanwhile, Friday, 29 May 2026 remains a working day. However, the public could extend their holiday by taking additional leave on this day. If taking leave on Friday, 29 May 2026, the holiday period could extend until Monday, 1 June 2026, which is Pancasila Day. With this arrangement, the public could enjoy a six-day consecutive holiday. Muhammadiyah had previously set 10 Zulhijah 1447 Hijriah on Wednesday, 27 May 2026 using the Global Unified Hijri Calendar (KHGT) method. Meanwhile, the government set the start of Zulhijah on Monday, 18 May 2026, meaning Idul Adha on 10 Zulhijah 1447 Hijriah falls on Wednesday, 27 May 2026. The determination was made through an isbat meeting combining hisab calculations and moon sighting reports from 88 observation points across Indonesia. The Ministry of Religious Affairs stated that the moon’s position met the criteria of the Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore (MABIMS) agreement, requiring a minimum moon altitude of 3 degrees and elongation of 6.4 degrees. Although not an official long weekend, the public may consider taking additional leave on Monday, 15 June 2026.
