Six cops fired for criminal acts

PEKANBARU, Riau: Six police personnel in the province were dismissed for committing numerous crimes and violations of the police code of ethics.

The six were dismissed in a ceremony presided over by Provincial Police Chief Brig. Jonny Yodjana at the provincial police headquarters in Pekanbaru on Monday.

Jonny said in his address that he had forcibly dismissed the six police officers because their wrongdoings were against the law and damaged the police's image.

To be viewed as professional, the police should try to set good examples to the public by first complying with the laws they are sworn to uphold, he said.

"All police officers must comply with the law and avoid actions that could be construed as insults to the people, such as torture, extortion and drug trafficking," he said.

He called on police officers in the province to tightly monitor their subordinates and to take actions against those violating the law and the police code of ethics.

The six dismissed officers were Budiman Wirawan, Musrizaldi, Jimmy Abdi Harahap, Budi Gunawan, Mahadar Sarmin and S.A. Effendi. He declined to divulge whether they would be brought to court or detained for their crimes. --Antara
