Commission III of the House of Representatives held a special meeting on the morning of Monday, 16 March 2026, to discuss the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS).

Habiburokhman, Chair of Commission III and a politician from the Gerindra Party, expressed grave concern and strongly condemned the acid attack on Andrie. He stated that the act was not merely ordinary crime but rather a crime against democracy. Habiburokhman said the morning meeting produced six conclusions.

First, Commission III affirmed that Andrie Yunus is entitled to protection under both national and international law that Indonesia has ratified, and in his capacity as both a citizen and human rights defender.

“Commission III of the House of Representatives affirms that the acid attack on Andrie Yunus represents a form of resistance against the Prabowo administration’s commitment to maximise the protection, promotion, enforcement, and fulfilment of human rights as outlined in the Asta Cita,” said Habiburokhman in Commission III’s meeting room at the House of Representatives complex in Central Jakarta on Monday, 16 March 2026.

Third, Commission III requested the Indonesian National Police (Polri) to thoroughly investigate the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus swiftly, transparently, and professionally, and to promptly identify and apprehend those responsible. Commission III also urged Polri not only to arrest field operatives but also those who planned, ordered, and aided the attackers.

Fourth, Commission III requested the Ministry of Health to guarantee all costs for Yunus’s best medical treatment and health recovery. Fifth, Commission III requested Polri and the Institute for Witness and Victim Protection (LPSK) to coordinate and provide special protection to Andrie Yunus and his family, his organisation, and other relevant parties. Habiburokhman said this special protection is essential to ensure security and prevent further violence against them.

Finally, Commission III of the House of Representatives will oversee the handling of the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus. Habiburokhman stated that Commission III will ensure law, truth, and justice are upheld for Andrie Yunus by holding regular working meetings and public hearings with relevant law enforcement authorities.

Yunus suffered burn injuries after being sprayed with acid by unknown assailants on Thursday evening, 12 March 2026, at approximately 23:37 Western Indonesia Time on Jalan Salemba I Talang in Central Jakarta. Yunus was attacked by two individuals on a motorcycle whilst he was travelling home after recording a podcast at the YLBHI office titled “Remilitarisation and Judicial Review of the TNI Law”.

Jane Rosalina, Head of KontraS’s Impunity Monitoring Division, stated that medical examination results showed the victim sustained approximately 24 percent burns from the inflammatory reaction caused by the caustic liquid on his skin. The burns were primarily on the face, particularly on the right side, including the right eye, both hands, and the chest area.

“Of the numerous injuries sustained, the most serious condition is on the right eye, which is currently receiving specialised treatment from an ophthalmological surgeon,” said Jane to Tempo on Saturday, 14 March 2026.

Given the severity of the injuries, the victim requires intensive care in a sterile environment to ensure optimal recovery. “We fully respect the medical treatment process carried out by the medical team and hospital personnel,” said Jane.
