Six children leave for S'pore
Six of the brightest children of the Tiara Putra Foundation
are scheduled to leave tomorrow for Singapore for a three-day
visit, an executive of the foundation said.
Chairperson of the foundation, Mrs. Halimah Bambang
Trihadmodjo, daughter-in-law of President Soeharto, said besides
visiting various recreation areas, the children will visit
Singapore's Bedok North Primary School where they will observe
school activities.
Tiara Putra, which celebrated its 11th anniversary on Sept.
28, 1994, is a social foundation, focusing its activities on
child adoption. The foundation nurtures underprivileged children
in provinces throughout Indonesia, except East Timor.
Sending the children abroad is the second trip of its kind,
organized by Tiara Putra in cooperation with Singapore Airlines.
The first was carried out last year.
Mrs. Halimah said the children to be sent to Singapore were
selected by a very strict process of checking their school
records and average achievements during one whole year.
The projects is intended to give children the opportunity to
experience traveling on an airplane to a foreign place and
exchanging experiences with their counterparts in Singapore.
